Nurse Burnout Prevention Strategies

1. Research Topic and Relevance

The topic of my proposed research is “Nurse Burnout Prevention Strategies.” I chose this topic because nurse burnout is a growing concern that affects patient care, staff retention, and the overall health system. It is closely related to health care administration because hospital managers and administrators play a key role in shaping work environments that prevent or contribute to burnout.

2. Sample Population and Research Type

I will focus on registered nurses (RNs) working in inpatient hospital settings, particularly in high-stress departments like emergency and intensive care units. The research will be mixed methods—combining quantitative surveys to measure burnout levels with qualitative interviews to explore personal experiences and organizational influences. This approach allows for both broad measurement and in-depth understanding.

3. Methodology and Data Analysis

I will use validated survey tools such as the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) to collect quantitative data. In-depth interviews will also be conducted to explore perceptions of burnout causes and effective coping strategies. Quantitative data will be analyzed using statistical software (SPSS) for patterns and correlations, while thematic analysis will be used to code qualitative responses.

4. Funding and Long-Term Impact

I plan to seek funding through AcademyHealth’s New Investigator Small Grant Program. This research will help health care administrators create targeted interventions to reduce nurse burnout. Improved work environments will lead to better staff morale, patient outcomes, and organizational performance—key goals in modern health care administration.
