Hiring the right people is fundamental to organizational success. To assess candidates effectively, it is essential to design interview questions that evaluate not only technical skills but also interpersonal capabilities, alignment with company culture, and problem-solving ability. The following are three insightful interview questions, along with their rationale:

“Tell me about a time you failed at a task. What happened, and how did you respond?”
This question assesses resilience, accountability, and self-awareness. According to Cascio and Aguinis (2019), behavioral questions that elicit past experiences are predictive of future performance because they reveal actual behavior rather than hypothetical responses. -
“Describe a situation where you had to work with someone who was very different from you. How did you ensure successful collaboration?”
Diversity and teamwork are crucial in today’s workplace. This question evaluates cultural competence and interpersonal skills. As organizations become more diverse, the ability to navigate differences becomes a core competency (Robbins & Judge, 2019). -
“If hired, what would your 30-60-90 day plan look like for this role?”
This forward-looking question measures initiative, strategic thinking, and preparation. It helps determine how much the candidate understands the role and whether they’ve thought critically about how to contribute quickly (Youssef-Morgan & Stark, 2020)…………….
