Extensive Reading Practice refers to the habit of reading large amounts of simple, enjoyable material to improve language fluency. It develops vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence while making learning more natural and engaging through regular exposure to easy texts.
Reading Experience and Context
This week, I selected a short ESL reader from the Cerritos College Library. The book was about everyday conversations and included simple stories describing family life, work, and social situations. In total, I read twenty pages, which felt manageable and enjoyable. I chose to read in my bedroom because it was quiet and allowed me to focus fully. Importantly, the setting helped me stay consistent and relaxed while reading. At first, I thought the stories would be too simple. However, as I continued, I realized that easy material improves fluency. Transitioning from story to story, I noticed new vocabulary became easier to understand.
