Extensive Reading Practice

Extensive Reading Practice refers to the habit of reading large amounts of simple, enjoyable material to improve language fluency. It develops vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence while making learning more natural and engaging through regular exposure to easy texts.

Reading Experience and Context

This week, I selected a short ESL reader from the Cerritos College Library. The book was about everyday conversations and included simple stories describing family life, work, and social situations. In total, I read twenty pages, which felt manageable and enjoyable. I chose to read in my bedroom because it was quiet and allowed me to focus fully. Importantly, the setting helped me stay consistent and relaxed while reading. At first, I thought the stories would be too simple. However, as I continued, I realized that easy material improves fluency. Transitioning from story to story, I noticed new vocabulary became easier to understand. Therefore, the environment and text both supported my learning experience.

Lessons Learned from Reading

Through this reading, I learned useful phrases for daily communication. For example, I practiced expressions about shopping, greetings, and asking for directions. These situations are very practical, and I can easily apply them in real life. Additionally, I learned that reading regularly improves comprehension and confidence in English. The short stories reminded me that language learning does not always require difficult texts. Instead, consistent practice with simple materials builds a strong foundation. Furthermore, the activity encouraged me to read more often and set personal goals. Transitioning from vocabulary to comprehension, I also understood cultural details within the stories. This provided insights into how language connects with everyday experiences. As a result, I now feel more motivated to continue my extensive reading plan.

In conclusion, this week’s reading activity was helpful, enjoyable, and practical. I gained new vocabulary, cultural understanding, and confidence in communication. Through consistent effort, I believe my writing and reading skills will improve further.
