The systems development life cycle (SDLC), also called the systems life cycle or software development life cycle, consists of four main stages: planning, selecting, implementing, and evaluating a health care information system. Regardless of what and how the system a health care organization acquires, various individuals from different departments with their unique backgrounds and areas of expertise come together to perform several needed tasks and accomplish this project.

- Identify the issue and need to purchase or upgrade a health information technology (HIT) health information system (HIS) such as artificial intelligence, clinical decision support system, cloud computing, electronic health record, laboratory information system, patient portal, software application, telehealth, etc., in your chosen health care facility.
