Perspectives and Assumptions

In the United States, people with disabilities are increasingly valued as capable contributors. Many organizations emphasize accessibility and equality. Department of Labor, 2022). This assumption encourages organizations to design inclusive policies. Second, U.S. culture often assumes disabled employees can adapt with reasonable accommodations. This belief supports flexible work arrangements and adaptive technology. Third, there is a growing assumption that diversity includes disability, which drives inclusive leadership pipelines.

In Kenya, people with disabilities often face stigma and limited access to opportunities. One assumption is that disability reduces productivity, which discourages employers from offering roles.  This perception limits investment in accommodations. A final assumption is that leadership is less achievable for this group.  These assumptions influence management by reducing expectations and restricting advancement.
