Army Leadership Values

Loyalty in Team Cohesion

Loyalty is the foundation of trust and unity in the Army. According to ADP 6-22: Army Leadership and the Profession, loyalty involves bearing true faith and allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, the Army, and fellow soldiers. As a team leader during a joint training mission, I demonstrated loyalty by advocating for my subordinates’ needs while ensuring mission objectives were met. This created a strong bond among team members, resulting in improved performance and morale.

Duty in Operational Execution

Duty means fulfilling your obligations, even when it’s challenging. Per ADP 6-0: Mission Command, soldiers are expected to take initiative within the commander’s intent. While deployed, I was tasked with organizing logistics for a humanitarian mission. Despite limited resources and time, I delegated tasks, adapted quickly, and ensured every soldier understood their role. The operation succeeded due to disciplined execution and accountability, reflecting the Army’s commitment to responsibility and reliability.

Respect in Diverse Environments

Respect fosters dignity, inclusion, and effective teamwork. In alignment with Army EO Policy (AR 600-20), I promoted respect by actively listening to the concerns of soldiers from diverse backgrounds during my time as a platoon sergeant. I mediated cultural misunderstandings and led DEI training sessions that enhanced mutual understanding. This not only reduced conflict but also strengthened trust and communication across the unit.

Conclusion: Living the Values

Army Leadership Values aren’t abstract—they shape real-world actions and decisions. Whether through loyalty to my unit, fulfilling my duty under pressure, or fostering respect among my team, I’ve seen how these values guide ethical and effective leadership. Upholding these principles strengthens unit cohesion and reinforces the Army’s mission and character.
