Accident Recovery Communication

Dear Mom and Dad,

I arrived here last week. The trip was terrible. Dr. Stevens says that my leg will be better soon. My roommate is very strange. The police say my money is gone forever.

Please send $1,500 to my new address right away.

Thanks!

Your loving son

Mark

Because you were at the accident and can fill in the details, Mark asks you to explain everything to his parents. SO:

1. Write a short letter to Mark’s parents filling them in on what happened.

2. Write a paragraph to your best friend or significant other about the same events (think of how you might post it on Facebook, or how you may send a text or email.) Talk like you would to that person.

Letter to Mark’s Parents

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to inform you about an unfortunate event involving Mark. During the first week of the semester, Mark was involved in a car accident while heading back from the bookstore. Thankfully, he received immediate medical attention and is currently recovering in the hospital under the care of Dr. Stevens. The doctor has assured us that his leg injury is not permanent and will heal with proper rest and therapy.

Mark has been in good spirits considering the circumstances, but he’s understandably shaken. Unfortunately, during the commotion following the accident, Mark’s wallet and personal belongings were lost. The police have been notified, but they believe the money is unlikely to be recovered. Mark also mentioned his current roommate is a bit eccentric, though there’s no immediate concern—just a personality clash, it seems.

Mark asked me to let you know that he may need $1,500 to help cover some urgent living and travel expenses while he recovers. He wanted to reach out himself, but he’s still under the effects of anesthesia and wanted to make sure the information reached you clearly……………
